Excellent infrastructure is the backbone
and chief driver of socio-economic development, which every country strives to
achieve. Roads make a crucial contribution to economic development and
growth and bring important social benefits. They are of
vital importance in order to make a nation grow and develop. The road
infrastructure, which is considered to be a key prerequisite of social and
economic development of any country.
In earlier years there is no easy access to
travel. In the ancient time roads were made of stone and timber. That percept
has changed a lot. Massive and strategic investment was made to build
world-class interstate highway systems and transportation infrastructure.
Providing access to employment, social, health and education services makes
a road network crucial in fighting against poverty.The road
transport industry is indeed instrumental in interconnecting all businesses to
all major world markets, driving trade, creating employment, ensuring a better
distribution of wealth and uniting mankind.
Road transport is quicker, more convenient
and more flexible. It is particularly good for short distance travel for
movement of goods. Roads are a necessary complement to
railways. India is a country of villages and it is only roads which
can connect villages and railways can connect towns.
Extensive network of roads of high quality
is essential for trouble-free road transport.
Road construction techniques were
gradually improved by the study of road traffic, stone thickness,road alignment,
